An old friend of mine called me the other day – after not hearing from them for over 50 years – and asked me what I’ve been doing musically. Needless to say a lot can happen in five decades and after he shared some of his many accomplishments with me, from garage bands to jazz quartet to stage bands and Broadway shows, I felt I owed him more than just a verbal synopsis of what occurred over that time.
This presents a number of challenges and questions. How do I present a lifetime of musical evolution? What should be included or omitted? Mark, as an accomplished person and musician, knows what he is talking about so I won’t be able to get away with much, so there is a certain vulnerability in this process. What will it look/sound like when a lifetime of effort will be exposed for reflection, evaluation or criticism? In the end does anyone care?
So I’ve decided to roll the dice and put out a short anthology of my writing and playing and see what happens:
Early 1980 Rock (Tune for Anne 1974)
Late 80’s Pop Songs (with George Capone)
Jazz Period 2006 (last time playing electric guitar)
